Sarah and Nakia met several years ago through their husbands, who are no strangers to the hospitality industry. Together, they have enjoyed all things involving good food, good drinks, and memorable times with friends and family. After working on an event together as a side project, something clicked and they discovered that their passion for creating one of a kind events combined with a void in the market for this type of service in Indianapolis was the perfect recipe for success, and Fork and Function was born!
Say hello to Chef, Sarah Showalter
I studied Hospitality and Tourism Management at Purdue after discovering my passion for food and entertainment. Then I moved to Chicago to attend culinary school at Kendall College. After culinary school, I found a home as a chef at Oh Yumm Bistro for 7 years. After having my oldest daughter, Irene, I was lucky enough to keep my toes in the culinary waters as a personal chef and caterer. I’m now a mother of two and continue to prepare wholesome, delicious cuisine for my customers. I love Indiana, growing my own food, and cooking for my friends and family. In my time out of the restaurant world, I have rediscovered my passion for bringing friends and family together, and I’m excited to share with new friends and clients!
Say hello to Designer, Nakia Miller
After graduating with a BFA in Visual Communication I spent more than a decade working in the advertising world in photography and print production all the while continuing to grow my own creative passions. One of those passions being baking, I found myself baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes for friend’s birthday parties and showers. While I love baking, I also love to create with simple materials such as paper or fabric, transforming it into flowers and other custom decor. In 2014, I started A Handcrafted Affair, a design studio focusing on handmade props and decor for events and editorial styling. My passion for designing events has continued to grow and has led me to here and I am so excited to celebrate with you!
